I attribute my love for personal style to my mom, and she's taught me many life lessons through her relationship with clothes.
Lesson #1: clothes are a tool of expression.
Lesson #2 : everything comes back in style.
I used to make fun of her for wearing turtlenecks because I didn't believe modesty would ever be cool. Now, I'm 29 and turtlenecks are a staple in my closet. What's the saying? Like mother, like daughter?
As always, Mom was right. If you follow me on Instagram, you've seen me wear a lilac turtleneck. It's actually my mother's, haha.
While her personal style is different than mine, my mom knew a turtleneck provided opportunities for versatility, modesty, and layering. Over the last few years, I've purchased multiple turtlenecks from thrift and secondhand shops, curating a collection of colors, textures, and patterns. As I style looks, I've taken this knowledge and made it my own.
