Paris, anyone? Scientific conferences are an opportunity for travel, collaboration, and scientific discourse. Over the summer, I was fortunate enough to go to Paris to attend the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS) Forum 2022, and I was able to present a poster on one of my Ph.D. projects focused on the expression of repetitive sequences in the aging brain.
I was also able to explore the city and exercise a Parisian twist on my personal and professional style...
To be frank, I don't love dressing for Summer. I don't love being hot, and as someone with curves, I hate two sensations: thighs rubbing and beads of sweat dripping. When I saw the temps in Paris, I panicked and knew I needed to pack pieces that would be light, breezy, chic, and versatile, transitioning well from day to night. I was determined for my suitcase to be underweight, my body to be comfortable, and my outfits not to scream AMERICAN.
It was the perfect excuse to rent practical, chic, and understated pieces from Rent the Runway. I wanted to blend in with Parisians 1) to avoid pick-pockets 2) to embrace the effortless ease of Europe.

It was my third time in Paris, but my first time as an adult. I can say it was such as meaningful, and magical, but for a new set of reasons. I wore all three of these pieces on repeat, pairing with my Converse sneakers or heels to dress each piece for a day of scientific talks or a night of good food and drink. And my looks only helped enhance the experience.
