Our Southwest Takes Cincinnati Food Tour started off with brunch at Taste of Belgium (see previous post) but quickly advanced to include some of my other favorite food groups: donuts, beer, and BBQ.

Although brunch is my favorite meal, I was equally impressed by the Cincinnati-experiences Southwest provided for us at Holtman's Donuts, Rhinegeist Brewery, and Just Q'in BBQ!

Holtman's Donuts (@holtmansdonuts)

Just down the street from Taste of Belgium in OTR, Ohio is Holtman's Donuts. The next stop on our Southwest Takes Cincy Food Tour was the popular donut shop that has called Cincinnati home since the 1960s. Donuts are made fresh and from scratch every morning, and topping options range from rainbow sprinkles to Lucky Charms (all of which are Instagram worthy.) The shop was a bit small for our large group, so we grabbed 2 dozen donuts and headed to the next stop on our food tour - Rhinegeist Brewery!

Rhinegeist Brewery (@rhinegeist)

Nothing washes down donuts quite like beer - I'm not a huge gluten person but the overload was seriously worth it to get the full Cincy experience. Rhinegeist Brewery was top on my favorites list for two reasons 1) rosé beer 2) their awesome space, 'indoor beirgarten' vibes with a CORNHOLE setup! Sold.

I tried one of Rhinegeist's flights - (L to R) Bubbles Rosé Ale, Puma Pilsner, Hustle Red Lager, and Truth India Pale Ale - and paired it with a traditional Holtman's donut with rainbow sprinkles!

Pro Tip: Rhinegeist Brewery ALSO has a rooftop bar with views of the city + high top tables perfect for outdoor day-drinking.

Just Q'in BBQ (@justqinbbq)

Our last stop of the day was at Just Q'in BBQ; and just when I thought I couldn't eat any more food, I topped a cup of mac & cheese with the most delicious brisket....and inhaled it all. We also had a sampling of their honey cornbread (amazing), pulled chicken (also amazing), and ribs (you guessed it, amazing.) We finished up our time in Cincy on a high note by washing down our BBQ with Cincinnati's infamous Kentucky Bourbon Ale. It's brewed in bourbon barrels and only sold on 4-packs - drink one and you'll quickly understand why.
